Income protection in case of incapacity for work

Nobody knows what their professional future holds. Your income depends not only on your success, but also on your health. As a self-employed person in Belgium, you are without income from the very first month if you fall ill or have an accident. Income protection insurance gives you financial security.

Self-employed with a company

The benefit from the RIZIV/INAMI (national health insurance) is far too low to cover your fixed costs. With income protection insurance (known in Belgium as gewaarborgd inkomen or AVRI), you can insure up to 80 per cent of your taxable professional income.

As a company director, you are also the key figure in your business. A keyman policy pays up to 100 per cent of your company's fixed costs for a maximum of two years if you are unable to work. And with temporary life insurance, you give your family a financially sound future, whatever happens.

Self-employed without a company

You too are without income in the first month, and after that the benefit is limited. With income protection, you do not have to dip into your savings in case of long-term incapacity for work.

An added advantage: the premiums are deductible as business expenses.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the insurance pay out?

You choose that when you take out the policy: usually until retirement age, after a waiting period you set yourself. The longer the waiting period, the lower the premium.
