Five classic cars seen from above

How often must you go for inspection?

25 to 30 years old
Normal frequency
30 to 50 years old inclusive
Every 2 years
Over 50 years old
Every 5 years

The reference date

  • The reference date is the day and month of first registration (see your registration certificate).
  • You may go up to two months before that date without the reference date changing.
  • If you go earlier, the reference date moves to the day of the inspection.
  • If you go later, you pay a surcharge for late inspection. Not having received a reminder is no reason to have it refunded.

What is not allowed with an O plate?

  • Commercial and professional use.
  • Commuting to work or school.
  • Paid passenger transport.
  • Use as a working vehicle or for emergency interventions.

These rules were introduced in 2018 (source: GOCA, the Belgian vehicle inspection association). If in doubt, check the current conditions with your inspection centre.

And the insurance?

For classic cars we offer tailored omnium cover, adapted to their limited use.
