More than 2500 portraits
From more than 2500 black-and-white portraits, Vanfleteren chose a selection: young talent, living legends, veteran surf icons, free surfers, locals, bodysurfers and musicians. Names such as Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton, John John Florence, Gerry Lopez and Dean Vandewalle stood before his lens.
To do so, he travelled to Hawaii, France, Bali, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and California. No blue sea or neon surf gear, but black and white: a surprising contrast with the colourful world of surfing.
The book
The Surf Tribe collection was also published as a book, which was available at CC Scharpoord (Maxim Willemspad 1, Knokke-Heist).
